XRP Ledger prepares for PermissionDelegationV1_1 protocol upgrade
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has entered a 14-day activation window for the PermissionDelegationV1_1 amendment, which could go live as early as October 5, 2026. The upgrade is contingent on validator support remaining above an 80% threshold throughout the countdown period. If support falls to or below 80%, the proposal will fail and the countdown will reset.
This amendment serves as a corrected replacement for a previous version of the permission delegation feature that contained a critical bug. Once active, the protocol will allow account holders to grant specific authorities to other accounts—such as compliance officers or operational roles—without transferring full signing keys or complete control. This granular control is designed to support institutional finance and regulated asset issuers by allowing for targeted permissions that can be revoked instantly.
The technical standard for this update follows XLS-75 and is included in the xrpld 3.3.0 software. The successful implementation of this feature is viewed as a significant test of XRPL governance and its ability to provide sophisticated account controls for tokenized real-world assets and institutional-grade lending.
