XRP Ledger shows shift toward larger-scale trading and changing holder distribution

Data from the XRP Ledger (XRPL) indicates a significant shift in user activity and wealth distribution. As of October 2026, the threshold to join the top 1% of XRP holders has declined to 43,995 XRP, a roughly 31% drop since January 2024. This decrease is attributed to a growing account base spreading the total supply across more wallets.

While the number of daily active trading accounts on the XRPL order book fell by approximately 40% year-over-year in Q2 2026, trading volume increased by 79%. This divergence suggests that while fewer accounts are participating, the remaining active accounts are trading significantly larger volumes. The average XRP traded per active account rose from 1,072 to 3,217.

This trend toward larger-value activity coincides with growth in tokenized assets on the network, which averaged approximately $3.72 billion during Q2, a thirtyfold increase from the previous year. The top 0.01% of holders, primarily consisting of institutional wallets, hold at least 3,784,253 XRP each.
