XRP Ledger targets institutional growth via RWA tokenization

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is increasingly positioned for institutional use through real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and cross-border payment capabilities. Despite recent price volatility and a dip below the $1 support level, developer activity and institutional engagement remain resilient.

Odelia Torteman of XRPL Commons noted that the ledger’s native architecture—including multi-purpose tokens and permissioned decentralized exchanges—supports institutional requirements. Major financial entities like Japan’s SBI Group continue to utilize the protocol, and XRPL Commons is partnering with AWS and Mastercard for upcoming startup incubation efforts.

Former Ripple adviser Anthony Welfare stated that the XRPL possesses the technical capacity to scale for banking systems and governments, capable of processing transactions in under three seconds. However, he cautioned that technological readiness does not guarantee price appreciation or immediate adoption. He emphasized that institutions require more than speed, citing the need for deep liquidity, reliable asset backing, custody services, and interoperability with other networks like Ethereum or private blockchains.
