XRP price surges amid rising derivatives interest and ECB tokenization launch
XRP has experienced a significant price increase, rising approximately 53% over the past month to trade around $1.54. This rally has coincided with a surge in derivatives market activity, with open interest reaching levels near yearly highs, reported at approximately $3.66 billion. Large-scale traders on platforms like Hyperliquid have also increased long positions, contributing to the upward momentum.
In Europe, the European Central Bank (ECB) has officially launched Pontes, a system designed to facilitate the settlement of tokenized assets using central bank money. Pontes connects distributed ledger technology (DLT) platforms with the Eurosystem’s TARGET services to enhance efficiency in the issuance and trading of financial assets.
Notably, Axiology, a DLT operator, is among the initial participants in the Pontes initiative. Axiology utilizes open-source XRP Ledger (XRPL) technology to build private networks for tokenizing financial assets such as securities and bonds. This creates a potential structural link where tokenized assets issued on XRPL-based infrastructure could be settled via central bank money through the Pontes system.
