Xteink e-readers gain Libby and Kobo ebook support via new firmware

Xteink e-readers are gaining expanded functionality through the introduction of third-party plugin support via CrossPoint Reader, an alternative firmware for the X3, X4, and X4 Pro models. This update addresses a previous limitation where users had to manually source DRM-free ebooks.

The new beta functionality allows these compact devices to access DRM-protected ebooks borrowed through OverDrive’s Libby library app or purchased from retailers like Kobo. To use these features, users must replace the stock firmware with CrossPoint Reader by connecting the device to a computer via USB-C and flashing the firmware through a web browser.

The Xteink X3 is designed as a highly portable, ultralight e-reader weighing 58 grams, intended to provide a distraction-free reading experience compared to smartphones. While the Libby integration is not as seamless as native mobile apps, it offers a significantly easier method for loading library books than manual file transfers.
