XTERRA World Championship 2026 to be held in Ruidoso, New Mexico
The 30th edition of the XTERRA World Championship is set to take place in Ruidoso, New Mexico, from October 8–11, 2026. This marks the first time the event will be held in the continental United States, following previous championships in Maui, Hawaii, and Molveno, Italy.
Athletes from 41 countries will compete in various categories. The centerpiece is the Full Distance World Championship on Saturday, October 10, which features a $100,000 professional prize purse for the elite field. The Youth World Championship will follow on Sunday, October 11.
The course, starting at Grindstone Lake, presents a significant challenge due to its high altitude of approximately 6,900 feet. The race includes a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 27-kilometer technical mountain-bike course climbing toward 8,000 feet, and a 10-kilometer trail run. Notable competitors include three-time champion Arthur Serrières, Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen, and Costa Rican triathlete Raquel Solís Guerrero.
