XTransfer expands to Mexico as digital payment fraud rises

The digital payment landscape in Latin America is undergoing significant shifts driven by expansion and technological risks. XTransfer has opened a new office in Mexico City to support B2B cross-border trade for SMEs, following a year in which it processed US$60 billion in total payment volume.

In Brazil, the payment ecosystem is facing increased pressure from digital fraud, which could exceed R$ 8.1 billion in 2026. The Brazilian Association of the Payment Ecosystem (PAGOS) is addressing new regulatory requirements regarding risk management and governance to ensure business continuity for smaller firms.

Technological advancements are also presenting new threats. Reports indicate that AI-driven fraud is up to 4.5 times more profitable than traditional methods, utilizing tools like deepfakes and autonomous agentic systems for phishing and identity theft. In Colombia, fraud accounted for nearly 80% of managed digital security incidents over the last two years.

Additionally, a study by Alipay+ and S&P Global highlights a digital gap in global commerce. While consumers demand seamless mobile payments and AI assistance, many still face obstacles regarding payment acceptance and interoperability, leading one in four to rely on cash.
