Xunta de Galicia approves €2.37 million for Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital expansion
The Xunta de Galicia has authorized a tender for the functional improvement and expansion of the Emergency Service at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Public Hospital in Vigo. The investment, totaling approximately €2.37 million, aims to increase capacity and optimize patient care circuits to address rising healthcare pressure caused by an aging population and shifts in patient transfers.
The project will cover 2,344 square meters on the hospital's third floor. Key improvements include the reorganization of the triage area with three new consultation rooms, the separation of pre-triage and post-triage waiting areas, and the relocation of psychiatry consultations.
Additionally, the plan includes the creation of a semi-critical zone with four resuscitation stations, the expansion of consultation areas for surgery, ophthalmology, traumatology, and otorhinolaryngology (COTO), and the addition of six new treatment boxes. The works also intend to establish a secondary emergency phase area to manage high-demand situations and improve access for pediatric ambulances.
