Xunta de Galicia approves legal defense to reclaim 150 million euros from diaper cartel

The Xunta de Galicia has authorized the expenditure of over 6 million euros to hire legal defense services aimed at recovering more than 150 million euros from companies involved in the so-called ‘diaper cartel’. These companies were sanctioned for conspiring to inflate the prices of adult incontinence absorbents.

Following a Supreme Court confirmation of the sanctions, the legal service will handle both procedural representation and the expert forensic analysis required to precisely quantify the costs incurred by the administration. While Sergas has already identified approximately 140.8 million euros paid between 2004 and 2014, the Xunta estimates the total claim could rise to 153 million euros once costs from the 1996–2004 period are accurately calculated.
