Galicia's Xunta invests €62,000 in Baiona childcare centre and adds €2 million to housing aid
The Galician government (Xunta) earmarked €62,000 for upgrades at Baiona’s early‑childhood school and day‑care centre. Manager Perfecto Rodríguez of the Consorcio Galego de Servizos de Igualdade e Benestar and mayor Jesús Vázquez Almuíña toured the sites, noting recent work that replaced windows in classrooms, kitchens and offices and, at the day‑care centre, will improve external paving, install covered vehicle access and repair structural elements to address humidity.
In a separate initiative, the Xunta announced an additional €2 million for subsidies on protected‑housing purchases and homes in historic centres. Housing minister María Martínez Allegue said €1.7 million will fund the protected‑housing line and €280,000 will support historic‑centre acquisitions, extending aid to 89 applicants on a waiting list. The funds aim to assist buyers under 36 with higher grant ceilings and to support refurbishment of heritage properties.
