Xunta de Galicia rejects municipal control of €5.1 million housing funds

The President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, has rejected a demand from the mayors of A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela to manage €5.1 million in state funds intended for stressed residential zones.

Inés Rey (A Coruña) and Goretti Sanmartín (Santiago) requested that these resources be transferred directly to their respective city councils to promote public housing. However, Rueda stated that the regional administration will invest the funds directly, noting that the Secretary of State for Housing clarified that the amount must be dedicated to the construction of public promotion housing.

Rueda criticized the local administrations' efforts in housing, claiming their actions are “practically nothing” compared to the regional government's interventions. He also argued that the declaration of stressed zones might increase rather than solve the existing housing problems.
