Xunta urges Spanish government to send wolf data to EU

The Xunta de Galicia has urged the Spanish central government to immediately submit data regarding the status of the Iberian wolf to the European Commission. This data covers the period from 2019 to 2024 and is essential for evaluating the species and other protected habitats under European regulations.

Marisol Díaz, the General Director of Natural Heritage, described the situation as ‘unsustainable’ during the State Commission on Natural Heritage. She noted that while Galicia submitted its data on time, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has unilaterally postponed the transmission of the agreed-upon report for several months.

Additionally, the Xunta highlighted that the Ministry still owes Galicia approximately 12 million euros from the 2022, 2023, and 2025 budgets. These funds are intended to support livestock farmers and implement preventive measures to mitigate damage caused by the wolf.
