Xuyen A Tay Ninh Hospital treats bone tuberculosis to prevent amputation

Doctors at Xuyen A Tay Ninh General Hospital successfully treated a 43-year-old Cambodian man who faced potential leg amputation due to severe, persistent bone infection. The patient had previously undergone multiple surgeries following a leg fracture from a travel accident, but continued to suffer from recurring infections and bone destruction.

Dr. Pham Cong Thien identified that the condition was not a typical infection but rather bone tuberculosis. The medical team implemented a multi-stage treatment plan, which included removing necrotic bone and using antibiotic-infused cement as a temporary scaffold to control the infection and facilitate bone regeneration. This diagnosis allowed for effective infection control and the preservation of the patient's limb.
