Yacht catches fire and sinks in Dalmatia

A motor yacht caught fire near the southern side of Čiovo Island in Dalmatia and subsequently sank in the Trogir Channel during an attempt to salvage the vessel. The incident occurred after the fire could not be fully brought under control by emergency responders.

All six people on board were successfully evacuated before the sinking, and no injuries or fatalities have been reported. The rescue and firefighting operations were coordinated by the National Maritime Search and Rescue Service (MRCC Rijeka) in collaboration with the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, the Coast Guard, and local fire departments from Trogir, Kaštel Gomilica, and Okruk.

The yacht eventually sank to a depth of approximately 31 meters. While the vessel suffered significant material damage, authorities have reported no signs of environmental pollution in the area following the sinking. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the vessel's submersion.
