Yacht catches fire and sinks off the coast of Jesolo

A 20-meter yacht caught fire and subsequently sank off the coast of Jesolo, Italy, near the Faro area. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon, approximately 100 meters from the shoreline, producing a large column of black smoke visible from the beach.

All ten people on board, including the commander, were successfully evacuated by the Coast Guard and firefighters without injury. Following the rescue operations, the vessel lost buoyancy and sank around 8:00 PM.

Emergency responders, including divers and helicopter crews, worked to contain the blaze. Authorities are now managing an environmental concern regarding a potential fuel spill, as the sunken yacht may contain hundreds of liters of diesel. Rescuers are using absorbent materials to prevent the fuel from spreading into the sea.
