Yacht Owners Advised on Maintenance to Prevent Corrosion and UV Damage

Experts highlight the most common mistakes yacht and boat owners make during seasonal upkeep, such as leaving salt residues on surfaces, inadequate ventilation, and using strong household chemicals for painting. These oversights can accelerate corrosion of metal parts, degrade UV‑exposed deck coverings, and foster mold growth inside cabins.

Kärcher specialists recommend rinsing all metal fittings, railings and glass with fresh water after each outing, applying pressure washing at the correct pressure to remove salt without excess water use, and treating vinyl and other surfaces with UV‑protective products. Proper drying of cushions, regular airing of interior spaces and the use of moisture absorbers are advised to prevent mold. Selecting the right cleaning agents for each material, rather than defaulting to powerful home‑type chemicals, helps preserve the vessel’s lifespan and resale value.
