Yahukimo violence leaves civilian dead and civil servant injured

A series of violent attacks occurred in the Dekai District of Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, on October 11 and 12, 2026. The incidents resulted in the death of a 46-year-old civilian and injuries to a 51-year-old civil servant.

The first attack took place on the evening of October 11 at a commercial complex, where a civilian identified as A was killed while assisting with the unloading of food supplies from a truck. The second attack occurred on the morning of October 12 in a residential area, where a civil servant identified as ET was attacked with sharp weapons while sweeping their yard, sustaining wounds to the wrist and back.

Authorities from the Satgas Operasi Damai Cartenz-2026 and the Yahukimo Police are investigating the involvement of the KKB Kodap XVI Yahukimo armed group, led by Kopitua Heluka. Police spokesperson Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo also clarified that reports claiming the deceased civilian was a member of TNI intelligence were false, confirming the victim was a civilian.
