Yair Netanyahu sparks controversy with remarks on Israeli Arabs
Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has drawn significant backlash following statements on social media regarding the Arab citizens of Israel. In a post on X, he claimed that, aside from Iran's nuclear program, the greatest threat to Israel's long-term survival comes from its Arab population.
He asserted that a nation cannot survive long-term when 20% of its population identifies with its enemies and seeks its destruction. He also made comments regarding Islam and Muslims, suggesting that many cannot live in peace with neighbors of other faiths.
The remarks have triggered sharp reactions within Israel. Arab lawmaker Ahmad Tibi condemned the statements as racist and antisemitic, noting that Arab citizens work toward a future of cooperation and equal rights. Publicist Rani Rahav also responded, reminding the Prime Minister of his 2016 comments regarding Arab voters, for which he had previously apologized. These tensions follow recent parliamentary elections where Arab parties gained 19 seats in the Knesset, increasing their influence in government formation negotiations.
