Yair Netanyahu supports Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands
Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has expressed public support for Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands. In a post on X, Yair Netanyahu stated, “The Falkland Islands are Argentine territory!”, accompanied by the Argentine flag emoji.
This statement follows similar comments from Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, who has urged the Israeli government to formally recognize Argentine sovereignty and impose sanctions on the United Kingdom. Ben Gvir criticized British activities in the archipelago, alleging that the UK is extracting resources from the Argentine people through oil drilling.
The discourse coincides with heightened tensions regarding hydrocarbon exploration in the region, specifically the Sea Lion oil project. This project involves the British firm Rockhopper Exploration in partnership with the Israeli company Navitas Petroleum. While Yair Netanyahu holds no official government position, his comments align with the diplomatic focus on Israel-Argentina relations established by President Javier Milei.
