Yalitza Aparicio to receive Icon Award at Atlanta film festival

Mexican actress and Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio will be honored with the Icon Award at the 15th edition of the Georgia Latino Film Festival (GALIFF). The ceremony is scheduled for the festival's opening night on September 30, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) stated that the award recognizes individuals whose international influence and career have significantly advanced the visibility of Latino culture within the film and entertainment industries. This commemorative edition of the festival will feature Mexico as the Guest Country of Honor.

Aparicio gained global prominence for her role in the film ‘Roma’, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. GALFA president Yvette Moïse noted that the award celebrates Aparicio's cultural impact and the pride she represents for the Hispanic community.
