Yamaha and KTM release learner-legal dual-sport motorcycles
Recent reviews of learner-legal dual-sport motorcycles highlight different approaches to the 125cc off-road market from Yamaha and KTM.
The Yamaha WR125R is a lightweight option weighing 138kg fully fuelled. It features 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels and long-travel suspension. While its lightweight build aids acceleration and off-road handling, the bike has been noted for having a skinny rear wheel and basic components, such as ABS being limited only to the front wheel.
In contrast, the KTM 125 Enduro R offers a more substantial build, sharing its chassis and suspension with the larger 390 Enduro R. It is heavier at 158kg fully fuelled, which impacts engine performance but improves road manners and stability. The KTM includes features such as switchable ABS and smartphone connectivity to a TFT dashboard, though its tall seat height and off-road-biased tyres may affect confidence on tarmac.
