Yamaha dominates May 2026 motorcycle sales as budget bikes surge in Argentina

Yamaha reported a record 72,821 motorcycles sold worldwide in May 2026, up 26,735 units from the same month a year earlier. The Yamaha RayZR led the lineup with 21,403 units, representing 29.39% of total sales, while the FZ series and R15 also posted strong gains. Premium 155 cc models (R15, MT‑15, XSR, Aerox) accounted for 35.66% of Yamaha’s volume, and the company discontinued the R3 and MT‑03 two‑cylinder models.

In Argentina, the motor‑vehicle dealers’ association recorded 369,468 new motorcycles registered in the first five months of 2026, a 43.2% year‑on‑year rise. Low‑cost “CUB” (Cheap Urban Bike) models under US$1,000 drove much of the growth, with the Keller KN 110‑8 topping May registrations, followed by the Honda Wave 110S and Gilera Smash 110. These affordable options are reshaping mobility choices amid rising public‑transport fares.

The data highlight a shift toward more technologically equipped, higher‑performance bikes in emerging markets, while price‑sensitive models boost sales in Argentina.
