Yamaha hosts 60th anniversary guitar exhibition in Shibuya
Yamaha is hosting a special exhibition titled ‘Yamaha Guitar 60th Anniversary at Shibuya’ to celebrate six decades of guitar production. The event runs from October 5 to November 23 at Yamaha Sound Crossing Shibuya.
The exhibition features approximately 70 instruments, ranging from historical models to the latest technology. Highlights include the company’s first folk guitars from 1966, such as the FG150 and FG180, as well as rare ‘dynamic guitars’ from the late 1950s. Visitors can also view electric guitars like the SG-3 and various electric bass models.
In addition to historical pieces, the showcase includes instruments used by professional artists, such as Seiji Kameda and Takashi Matsumoto. The event also offers hands-on experiences, including a section for testing the latest ‘TransAcoustic’ models, which use digital technology to add effects like reverb and chorus directly through the acoustic body. Another interactive corner demonstrates how proper maintenance and setup affect playability and string height.
