Yamaha Motor India teases new R-series motorcycle

Yamaha Motor India has released a teaser movie titled ‘The #RInstinct Is Brewing’ to preview a new model in the R-series, with an official announcement scheduled for August 27. While the specific model remains unconfirmed, local reports strongly suggest the upcoming motorcycle is the YZF-R2.

The potential introduction of the YZF-R2 would fill a gap in the Indian market between the 155cc YZF-R15 and the 321cc YZF-R3. Speculation suggests the bike may feature a newly developed 200cc-class single-cylinder engine rather than a simple displacement increase of the existing 155cc unit. Such an engine could potentially serve as a platform for various other models in the future.

In India, high taxes on large-displacement motorcycles make the 200cc class a significant segment for accessible performance. While a 200cc model is unlikely to be introduced to the Japanese market due to existing lineups like the YZF-R25, the development of a new engine platform could influence future models globally.
