Yamaha patents new hybrid powertrain system for scooters
Yamaha has revealed a series of patents for a new hybrid powertrain system designed for scooters, building upon its Proto HEV concept vehicle. The system utilizes a series-parallel hybrid architecture that combines a single-cylinder engine with two electric motors.
The first electric motor is responsible for driving the rear wheel directly, powered by a battery pack located in the floor area. An electromagnetic clutch allows the vehicle to operate in pure electric mode by disconnecting the gasoline engine from the CVT transmission. The second electric motor is connected to the engine crankshaft, functioning as a generator to assist operation and recover energy during deceleration.
