Yamaha targets 2027 MotoGP turnaround with new 850 cc engine and fresh riders

Yamaha’s V4 engine programme launched in 2026 has not delivered the expected resurgence, leaving the factory team without a podium since Fabio Quartararo’s 2022 Sachsenring win. Team director Massimo Meregalli says the 2027 season will mark a decisive shift, coinciding with the series‑wide move to 850 cc engines, reduced aerodynamics and the final ban on ride‑by‑wire systems.

Meregalli announced that Toprak Razgatlıoğlu will be joined by two newcomers – Jorge Martín and Ai Ogura – both arriving from Aprilia, to replace long‑time riders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins. “The next year will be a new page and the arrival of two new riders gives us incredible energy,” he said. The changes are intended to refresh Yamaha’s prospects after a period of decline, while Aprilia continues to dominate the MotoGP grid in 2026.
