Yamandú Orsi reports increase in organized crime violence in Uruguay

Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi stated during a press conference in Salto that organized crime has become significantly more violent. He noted that homicide rates serve as a key indicator of this shift, with 312 homicides recorded between January and September 2026, representing a 13.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Orsi also addressed the rise of cyberattacks, admitting that Uruguay is not yet fully prepared to face these digital threats. He emphasized that the government is currently working to acquire the necessary technology to improve the nation's defensive capabilities against such crimes.
