Solaria to invest $5.7 billion in Uruguay data centers and solar energy

Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi has announced a historic $5.7 billion investment from the Spanish company Solaria to develop a technological park consisting of data centers and solar energy infrastructure. The project, which will operate under a free zone regime, is divided into two strategic phases.

The first phase includes the construction of 200 megawatts of data center capacity and 350 megawatts of solar power generation. The second phase aims to add an additional 300 megawatts of data center demand. The facilities will be distributed across the departments of Canelones, San José, and Florida.

Economic projections indicate that the construction phase is expected to create approximately 3,100 jobs by 2029, with an additional 1,500 permanent positions once the project is fully operational. President Orsi emphasized that the investment serves as a signal of Uruguay’s stability and commitment to clear rules for international growth.
