Yampa Valley Regional Transportation Authority proposes sales tax measure

The Yampa Valley Regional Transportation Authority Board of Directors has voted 5-1 to place a 0.5% sales tax funding measure on the November ballot. The measure aims to support regional transit services across nearly every municipality in the Yampa Valley.

The proposal faced opposition from Oak Creek Mayor Melissa Dobbins, who expressed concerns regarding the additional tax burden on residents and the specific use of funds. Additionally, Steamboat Springs officials discussed the ballot language, with some council members requesting amendments to clarify the scope of the funds. Specifically, concerns were raised regarding broad language related to public safety and highway improvements, with some officials seeking to ensure funds prioritize regionally connected transit rather than localized infrastructure projects.
