Yan Yean Road Stage 2 construction begins in Melbourne

Major construction has commenced on Stage 2 of the Yan Yean Road upgrade in Melbourne’s outer north-east. The project involves duplicating 5.5 kilometres of the arterial road between Kurrak Road at Yarrambat and Bridge Inn Road at Doreen, increasing capacity from one lane to two in each direction.

The upgrade includes a substantial intersection program, featuring new traffic signals, the replacement of existing roundabouts, and upgrades to the signalised intersection at Ironbark Road. Specifically, the roundabout at Yan Yean Road, Bridge Inn Road, and Doctors Gully Road will be replaced with a signalised intersection. Additionally, new roundabouts will be installed at Heard Avenue and Youngs Road to facilitate heavy-vehicle U-turns.

Designed to support growing residential and business areas, the project aims to reduce traffic conflicts and improve consistency for the more than 24,000 vehicles that use the road daily. The first two intersection upgrades are projected for completion in early 2027.
