Yang Seung-hye: South Korean fencing star gains attention

South Korean fencer Yang Seung-hye is gaining significant attention ahead of the 2026 Asiad. At 20 years old, she is the youngest member of the South Korean women's sabre team and is set to compete in the women's team sabre event.

Yang has already achieved notable international success, including winning a gold medal in the women's team sabre at the 2025/26 Fencing World Cup in May and securing an Asian championship title in June. Additionally, she contributed to South Korea's bronze medal win at the World Fencing Championships in July, where the team narrowly lost 44-45 to Italy in the semifinals.

Often referred to by fans and media as a “fencing goddess,” Yang has been compared to fictional characters due to her combination of athletic skill and appearance. She has expressed long-term ambitions to represent her country at the Olympics and secure a gold medal.
