Yanga Mayor addresses water and sanitation infrastructure deficits
In Yanga, Mexico, Mayor Rafael Aguilar Martínez has initiated efforts to address long-standing deficits in potable water, sanitation, and public lighting. Acknowledging that these issues have accumulated over 15 years, the administration has developed the municipality’s first Municipal Water Plan to transition from improvised responses to technical, prioritized planning.
Because some necessary infrastructure projects exceed the local government's budget, officials are negotiating with the Veracruz State Water Commission (CAEV) and other federal entities for funding. While awaiting these resources, the municipality has begun using local funds for urgent repairs, such as replacing the main water network in Palmillas to improve supply to the community and surrounding neighborhoods.
