Yangju Mayor inspects Okjeong commercial district to resolve traffic congestion
Yangju Mayor Jeong Deok-young visited the Okjeong Central Commercial District to address citizen complaints regarding severe traffic congestion. The issues were reported via the city’s direct text message service for citizens.
The congestion is attributed to reduced driving lanes caused by the ongoing Okjeong-Pocheon Line railway construction, compounded by illegal parking from academy vehicles and passenger drop-offs. This has caused traffic to back up around intersections and hindered the functionality of internal commercial roads.
In response, Mayor Jeong has instructed relevant departments to increase enforcement of no-parking zones using both fixed and mobile CCTV, alongside on-site guidance. Additionally, Yangju City plans to expand the existing two-lane internal commercial road to three lanes this October to separate waiting vehicles from through traffic and improve flow.
