Yankees catcher Austin Wells announces engagement to Caroline Nielson

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells is engaged to Caroline Nielson. The couple announced the engagement via Instagram on September 23, sharing photographs of the proposal which took place on a California beach on September 3.

Nielson is a former collegiate equestrian athlete who competed for Oklahoma State University and later transferred to Southern Methodist University (SMU). During her time at Oklahoma State, she earned several academic honors and was recognized as a Most Outstanding Performer in her sport.

The engagement comes as Wells prepares for the postseason with the Yankees. The couple, who also have an infant daughter named Lucy, made the announcement during a break in the Yankees' schedule as they approach the playoffs.
