Yannis Stournaras targets ‘A’ investment grade for Greece by 2030
Yannis Stournaras, Governor of the Bank of Greece, outlined economic objectives and discussed monetary policy during the Economic Forum in Istanbul. Speaking on the panel ‘Monetary Policy under Uncertainty’, Stournaras addressed the challenges of managing policy in volatile environments.
Stournaras set a target for Greece to achieve an ‘A’ investment grade rating before 2030. He emphasized the importance of fiscal stability and ongoing reforms to strengthen the national economy. This goal follows Greece’s recent decision on October 1 to repay 2.5 billion euros to the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF).
The repayment was funded by proceeds from the re-privatization of Greek banks that had previously received support from the EFSF. Stournaras defended the early repayment, noting that in a period of rising international bond yields, such a move saves significant resources for both the state and its citizens.
