Yanping High School students report mass illness in Taipei
Approximately 21 students at Yanping High School in Taipei reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, with 11 students also experiencing fevers. The school confirmed that the symptoms emerged in a junior high school class on the evening of October 6.
Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated that it is currently unclear whether the incident was caused by food poisoning or Norovirus. The Taipei City Education Bureau and Health Bureau have conducted on-site sampling and are awaiting laboratory results from food samples. As a precaution, the school has suspended services from the current meal provider for two weeks and arranged for an alternative vendor.
Taipei City Councilor Xu Shu-hua has criticized the city government's handling of food safety issues, calling on Mayor Chiang to take responsibility. She demanded a formal task force meeting with food safety experts to address systemic management improvements and oversight of meal providers.
