Yantai toddler rescues trapped puppy from highway crevice

In Yantai, Shandong, a three-year-old girl successfully rescued a puppy trapped in a narrow crevice beneath an elevated highway. The gap, which was less than 30 centimeters wide and approximately 4 to 5 meters deep, was too small for an adult to enter.

According to the child's mother, Ms. Ma, the girl, Nan Nan, volunteered to help, stating she wanted to save the dog “like a firefighter.” After her grandfather secured her with a safety harness and assessed the stability, her father lowered her into the pit using ropes. The child remained calm throughout the process, retrieved the puppy, and was then hoisted back to the surface.

The rescued puppy sustained only minor injuries and has since been adopted by the girl's family. While many netizens praised the family's kindness and the child's bravery, the incident has sparked debate regarding child safety. Some critics have questioned the parents' decision-making, labeling the rescue attempt as reckless and expressing concerns over the safety of the rope bindings used.
