Yaoundé distributes public works equipment to combat flooding

The Urban Community of Yaoundé (CUY) has officially delivered 21 pieces of public works and sanitation equipment to the seven district communes of Cameroon's capital. This initiative is part of the Yaoundé Sustainable Stormwater Sanitation Complementary Project (PCADY), supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Each commune received a grader, a wheel loader, and a backhoe to assist with drain cleaning, the restoration of natural outlets, road rehabilitation, and waste removal. The equipment aims to improve local response times to infrastructure degradation and flooding caused by heavy rains. This delivery follows a previous distribution of seven 20-ton dump trucks in September 2025, with seven manual compactors expected to be provided by UNOPS.

Officials noted that the long-term effectiveness of this investment will depend on urban governance, regular maintenance, and transparent management of the machinery.
