Yaracuy Bridge Collapses as Heavy Rains Flood Barinas, Venezuela

Intense rainfall across central‑western Venezuela has caused severe infrastructure damage and flooding. In Yaracuy state, the Autopista Centroccidental Cimarrón Andresote bridge near Guama, Sucre municipality, collapsed after the swollen stream beneath it eroded the central pillars. Regional authorities closed the bridge, rerouted traffic onto the Pan-American Highway and began emergency repairs.

Simultaneously, Barinas state experienced rapid river rises that inundated main roads and isolated rural communities. Residents reported fast‑rising waters that made vehicle passage impossible. The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMEH) warned that unstable atmospheric conditions will likely continue, prompting civil protection, fire services and regional government teams to monitor river levels, assist affected families and distribute food to more than 50 households.

Local officials, including Yaracuy regional secretary Lenyis Martínez, activated a contingency plan with municipal mayors to clear debris, restore electricity and provide humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable villages.
