Yaracuy autopsy rules toddler's death was due to natural causes

An autopsy has determined that the death of a two-year-old girl in Yaracuy, Venezuela, was caused by natural reasons rather than choking. The child, identified as Louisiana Monserrat Arriechi Sánchez, passed away at the Tiburcio Garrido Hospital in Chivacoa.

Initial reports suggested the toddler had choked on a lollipop while watching television at her home in the José Félix Ribas community. However, the National Autonomous Service of Forensic Medicine and Sciences (Senamecf) conducted an anatomopathological protocol which revealed the true cause of death was cardiorespiratory arrest stemming from a pre-existing underlying medical condition.

Following the forensic results, investigators from the Scientific, Criminal, and Penal Investigation Corps (Cicpc) have officially closed the case, classifying the incident as a death by natural causes.
