Yarrawonga Merino sale sees top ram sell for $55,000

The Yarrawonga Merino and Poll Merino sale in Harden saw significant increases in both average and top prices. All 280 lots were sold, with an average price of $5,771, compared to $3,646 at last year’s sale.

The top-priced ram, Yarrawonga 250464, sold for $55,000 to Allan Hobley of Wiringa Park Poll Merino Stud in Western Australia. The 118-kilogram ram features an 18.1 micron fleece and high Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) for yearling greasy fleece weight.

Nutrien Stud Stock’s Rick Power noted that the buyer had been tracking the stud closely to find sheep that could help reduce their micron levels while maintaining structure and wool quality.
