Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul struggle in Ranji Trophy opener

Indian Test openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul struggled on the opening day of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season.

Playing for Mumbai against Chandigarh at Wankhede Stadium, Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck after facing 13 balls. Meanwhile, KL Rahul managed only four runs for Karnataka in their match against Andhra in Vijayawada. Early bowling from Andhra's Kavuri Saiteja and KV Sasikanth left Karnataka in a difficult position at 22/4 within the first eight overs, though subsequent half-centuries from Smaran Ravichandran and Krishan Shrijith helped stabilize the innings.

Both players enter the domestic season following recent international assignments. Rahul recently performed strongly in India's ODI series against the West Indies, while Jaiswal was part of the ODI squad but did not feature in the playing XI. The players are expected to participate in the India A shadow tour starting October 26 as preparation for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand.
