Japan continues disaster recovery for roads and railways

Recovery efforts continue across various regions in Japan following natural disasters. In Aizawaso Town, the prefecture has announced it will take over the reconstruction of the Nakamura Chohira Line. This road suffered 19 instances of landslides and collapses due to heavy rains, with repair costs estimated at approximately 450 million yen. The prefecture aims to enable one-way alternating traffic by the end of the year.

In Toyama Prefecture, the Kurobe Gorge Railway has announced the resumption of full-line operations between Unazuki Station and Keyakidaira Station starting October 1, 2026. This marks the first time in three seasons that the entire line has been operational, following disruptions caused by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. While the train service is returning, certain areas around Keyakidaira Station remain restricted due to ongoing reconstruction work.

Additionally, in Suzu City, roads in the Sugaiike area remain impassable one month after record-breaking heavy rainfall.
