Yatsushiro elderly facility receives haircutting volunteer amid water outages
Following the Kumamoto Earthquake, a hairdresser from Gifu Prefecture, Yuta Kuroki, traveled to Yatsushiro City to provide free haircuts to residents at an elderly care facility. The facility, Koshun-en, continues to face water outages two weeks after the earthquake, which registered a seismic intensity of 6-upper.
Kuroki, a native of the area, expressed a desire to turn his feelings of helplessness into meaningful support for his hometown. The volunteer efforts provided emotional relief to the elderly residents, many of whom expressed gratitude for the service during the ongoing displacement and utility shortages. As of the report, over 20,000 households in Yatsushiro remain without water, and more than 3,200 people continue to live in evacuation centers.
