Yaw Ampofo Ankrah addresses NSA challenges amid suspension
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the suspended Director-General of Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA), has addressed the challenges faced during his 18-month tenure. Ankrah highlighted the intense and “constant and unrelenting” pressure of the role, noting that the authority lacks the necessary resources, dedicated structures, or maintenance departments to manage the nation’s sporting infrastructure effectively.
Ankrah was asked to step aside on October 1, 2026, pending investigations into allegations regarding a visa facilitation arrangement related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. While the NSA has denied these allegations, the investigation remains ongoing. Ankrah, who was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama in March 2025, noted that the NSA has faced significant criticism regarding the management and condition of various sports facilities across the country.
