Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş enters top 20 world chess rankings
Turkish Grandmaster Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş has entered the top 20 of the live world chess rankings at age 15. Following a victory during the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Erdoğmuş reached the 19th position with a rating of 2723.2.
This achievement places him alongside elite players such as Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Fabiano Caruana. Erdoğmuş previously became the youngest player in history to surpass the 2700 ELO threshold, breaking a record formerly held by China's Wei Yi.
The Turkish national team, which includes Erdoğmuş, Ediz Gürel, Işık Can, Vahap Şanal, and Emre Can, recently defeated Latvia 3.5-0.5 in the fifth round of the Olympiad.
