Yazdān border crossing reaches $5 million in exports
The Yazdān border crossing in South Khorasan has reached $5 million in exports since the beginning of the year, signaling a potential revival of trade in the region. Although currently operating irregularly, local officials are working to transform the site into a formal dry port and customs hub to alleviate economic pressure on border communities.
Local leaders are seeking to transition the regional economy away from a reliance on manual porterage (kolbari) toward sustainable production, including livestock and agriculture. Additionally, a private sector investment of 1,000 billion tomans is planned to add 10 megawatts of solar power to the local grid, which could support future industrial development in the area.
