YCRT interventor denies layoffs and highlights port upgrades
Pablo Gordillo Arriagada, the interventor of YCRT, has denied rumors of layoffs during a meeting with labor unions in Santa Cruz. He stated that the company’s reactivation plan focuses on utilizing existing personnel to restart idle production units.
Regarding production, YCRT has prepared 210,000 tons of coal for export under a six-month agreement. To support logistics and competitiveness, a new $2 million intelligent beaconing system has been implemented at the Punta Loyola port. This European technology utilizes artificial intelligence and tracking to allow for safer vessel entry during various tides, reducing previous delays where ships sometimes waited days to load coal.
Furthermore, YCRT is collaborating with provincial authorities to expand the free trade zone and transition toward a multipurpose port model.
