Yeast Photo Festival explores global issues through food

The fifth edition of the Yeast Photo Festival, themed ‘A Matter of Taste’, will take place in Galatina from September 11 to November 8, 2026. Curated by Edda Fahrenhorst, the international contemporary photography festival uses food as a lens to examine modern issues such as climate crisis, war, inequality, and migration.

Featured works include Forough Alaei’s ‘Daughters of the Sea’, which documents the lives of Iranian women fishers on Hengam Island in the Persian Gulf. The project captures their daily labor and the balance between tradition and change. Other contributors include Koral Carballo, whose series ‘Memories of tender bonds’ explores the history and struggles of an Afro-descendant community in Veracruz, Mexico, and Saher Alghorra, whose photography depicts the famine and destruction in the Gaza Strip.
