Yeelight announces Smart Ceiling Light S1 series with Matter over Thread

Yeelight has announced the Smart Ceiling Light S1 series, featuring the S1 320 and S1 450 models. These new smart ceiling lights have received certification from the Connectivity Standards Alliance, supporting Matter 1.4.2, Thread, and Bluetooth.

Moving away from traditional Wi-Fi reliance, the S1 series utilizes Matter over Thread for communication. This allows for integration with major smart home ecosystems, including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. Users can utilize an existing Matter controller and Thread Border Router, such as an Apple TV 4K or HomePod mini, without requiring a proprietary Yeelight hub.

The lighting design features two independently controllable sources: a downward-facing main light for general room illumination and an upward-facing RGB ambient light for atmosphere. The main light allows for adjustments to brightness and color temperature, while the RGB light offers up to 16 million colors. The larger S1 450 model also includes a Moonlight Mode with a low output of 2 lumens.
